Help: FAQs: Public Profile

What is an Avatar?

An avatar is the thumbnail sized picture that represents you throughout MHP. It appears on your profile page, next to your name when you post in the forums, and in various other places throughout the site.

When choosing an avatar, be sure to choose a photo that best represents you.

How do I add/upload an Avatar?

First, you must upload a photo to your My Profile Photos page, then you can turn any photo into your avatar. To add a profile photo, sign-in to MHP and click My MHP> My Account> My Profile Photos. Click Add a New Photo, then click the Browse button. Navigate to the location of your photo, highlight the filename, then click Open to close the File Upload dialog box. Check the Make my Avatar checkbox if you would like to make this photo your avatar, then click Add.

If you want to change your avatar, click My MHP> My Account> My Profile Photos, then click the Make my Avatar link beside the picture you would like to make your avatar.

Can I add personal information about myself?

Yes you can! Sign-in to MHP, then click My MHP> My Account> Profile Info. In the About Me text box, enter information about yourself that you would like others to know about you, including family information, education, career, hobbies, and any interesting facts about yourself that you would like to share.

Can I use HTML formatting in my Bio?

No, the Wiki does not support HTML formatting. The focus of a Wiki is a little different than the focus of an HTML environment. Wiki offers simple markup rules so you can focus on putting your information online, without having to worry about what it looks like. Wiki's emphasis is making it easy for you to add content, not how to present the content.

If you need assistance formatting your personal information, click the wiki formatting ?Help bubble located at the bottom of the About Me text box for more information or read What is wiki formatting? in FAQs: Site Features

Why should I add my location?

Adding personal information, including your location, to your profile allows other MHP users to learn a bit about you and your community. It can also provide content for your experience as each region has distinct and unique qualities. Providing your location is optional, but it can be helpful to other MHP members.

How do I place myself on the map?

When you are adding personal information to your profile, you enter your full address, including street number and street, city, province and postal code, or enter a general description of your location, for example, Weber St N, Kitchener, Ontario, in the Location text box, on the Location tab. Click the Use this Address as my Map Point button, next to the Location text field, if you would like to include your address as a point on the map. MHP automatically inserts a point on the map at your specified location and enters the longitude and latitude in the Longitude and Latitude text fields.

Can I link to my personal blog?

Yes you can add blogs to your My Outside Blogs page! Sign-in to MHP, click My MHP> My Account> My Outside Blogs and click Add a New Blog. Enter the name of the blog and the web address for the blog, then click Add.

Can I make different sections of my profile private?

Yes, you can determine the level of security you prefer for each section of your profile. There are three levels of privacy in MHP: Hide, Show to Everyone, and Show to Contacts Only.
